Ready to go

For a lot of international tourists coming to Vietnam, taking a motorbike trip is an exciting experience in which they can feel a real Vietnam on their two-wheel bike. Once having the decision to take a Vietnam road trip, you may consider the expenses of the trip. To help you identify this issue, we’ve summed up all the costs in the article below.

The motorbike cost

When it comes to the motorbike, you have two options: rent or buy one.

Depending on how long you will travel and how much you want to spend, you can decide this.

Rent a motorbike

In general, you will have to pay about $10 per day on average for Vietnam motorbike rental. And of course, the cost can vary based on the type of bike you rent. It can be standard automatics or semi-automatics ones.

Usually, the companies which offer the rental services can arrange pick-up and drop-off in different places. For instance, you rent a motorbike from one location then you can give it back to another agency of this company if it’s convenient for you.

Throughout the country are a host of companies that provide motorbike rental for travelers. But if your flight lands in Hanoi, from which you will take Vietnam motorbike tours, then it is advisable to come to BM Travel Adventure. Located at No.36, Duy Tan, Cau Giay, Hanoi, the company owns a lot of powerful motorbikes that promise to bring incredible riding experiences. In case you are not really confident in conquering the Vietnamese terrains, they can offer a team supporting you during the trip.

Buy a motorbike

Buying a motorbike, of course, is much more expensive than renting one. However, you also sell it after your Vietnam road trip. With around $200, you can own a motorcycle for yourself and use it freely. To save money, you can also buy a used one from other travelers who want to sell theirs.

The drawback of buying a motorbike is that you will waste your time finding and purchasing a suitable bike, then selling it at the end of the journey. You may have to pay extra money for maintenance.

Another cost included in this part is the fuel cost. How much money you have to spend on fuel depends on the distance you ride and the type of bike.

The current gas price (March 2020) is around 19,000 VND (less than $1). With a 3-5 liter tank for a standard motorbike, you only need about 60,000 VND- 100,000 VND ($2.5 – $4.5) to get it full. The one with a full tank of gasoline can take you around 100 -200 kilometers, so you will use one tank of gas for one day of traveling.

The accommodation cost

Considering where to stay during your Vietnam road trip is an important thing. There is a variety of accommodations that you can choose from, depending on your budget and desire.

Hostels and guest houses

This is a popular type of accommodation that can be easily found over the country. Even you travel alone, or with your friends, you can opt for a suitable kind of room like a double room, twin room, or shared room. The room rate ranges from 200,000 to 400,000 per night.

Homestays

Homestay is a typical accommodation in some regions in Northern Vietnam, such as Ha Giang, Mai Chau, and Sapa. It is the traditional stilt house of ethnic groups built by wood, in which you will sleep on the floor with a mattress and a mosquito net. The price is only 100,000 VND to 200,000 VND per night. If you want to try the local food, you can pay extra money to get a traditional meal from the owner. Staying in a homestay is also an exciting way to get close to the daily life of local people and learn more about their cultures.

Hotels and resorts

If money is not your issue, then you can consider hotels or resorts to get better services. Throughout the country, you can find numerous hotels to stay in. The price ranges around $20 per night or even higher, depending on the type of rooms. Staying in a hotel means you can get amenities and facilities such as air-conditioning and a private bathroom with a water heater, hair-dryer, toiletries.

Camping

It sounds interesting. Not only is it an exciting experience, but camping is also an excellent way to save money. It is an ideal choice when you travel to remote stretches of the road. However, if you tend to camp, you need to prepare before your trip, bring more equipment such as a tent and a blanket. It may be convenient as your package will become heavier.

The food and drink cost

Food and drink is another important thing that you have to concern in a Vietnam road trip. Actually, eating in Vietnam is quite cheap. The local foods cost only around $1. If you want soft drinks or coffee for your breakfast, you will pay about $2. You want to relax with some cold beer; it may cost about $4- $5.

You can also enjoy seafood when passing coastal areas, or even if you miss your homeland’s cuisine, you can easily find a Western restaurant in big cities and towns. And of course, the money you have to pay is much more expensive.

Wrap up

You now have all the useful information about the cost of your Vietnam road trip. During the journey, you may have to pay some extra money for entrance tickets when visiting museums or tourist spots or fee to repair your motorbike if it’s broken down on the road.

In general, you will pay more or less, depending on a lot of aspects. We hope that after reading this post, you can easily prepare for your upcoming excursion. Have a safe trip!
