LAOS ITINERARY FROM NORTH TO SOUTH

If someone wants to prove that Southeast Asia is worth visiting, then Laos is a perfect example to support the point. This country has breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, impressive Buddhist structures, and lovely people. There are so many things to explore in the land. Therefore, people often don’t know where to start and which destinations to visit. The following list gathers the most popular destinations that any great Laos itinerary will include.

Bokeo Nature Reserve

Our list mentions the destinations from the North of the country to the South. The first place we would highly recommend you to come is Bokeo Nature Reserve. This is where you can witness the majesty of primitive nature in Laos. Bokeo in the Lao language means “Jade Mine”, but the most precious thing here is not some jades but the pristine natural environment.

From the unique treehouses, we can watch a spectacular panorama of the area – a fresh green covering the whole land. The rich flora and fauna is another charm of Bokeo Nature Reverse. Here you can also join a search for black gibbon, buffalo, or even bears – that’s a totally worthwhile experience.

Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is undoubtedly the most famous tourist destination in the country. We bet that you can see this name in most Laos itinerary. And the former capital of Laos absolutely deserves its reputation. In general, the charm of the city is a result of many factors: glamorous ancient constructions, breathtaking natural landscapes, and an exciting cultural atmosphere. Joining a Laos motorbike tour to Luang Prabang is highly recommended because it gives you a chance to deeply explore this destination.

In the city, you can quickly come through amazing attractions. Here are some prominent spots you should take a closer look.

Wat Xieng Thong Temple possesses a typical Lao architecture and meticulous sculptures. The design and decoration of the temple with its high artistic show the brilliant construction techniques of Lao people. Inside, you can find plenty of gorgeous Buddha statues.

Representatives of the splendor of the nature in Luang Prabang are Kuang Si Waterfall and Phou Si Mount. Once you see Kuang Si Waterfall, you will likely be sucked into its beauty – a silver waterfall with a dozen of small turquoise pools at the bottom. All we want to do is immersing ourselves into the cool water and the cheerful sounds of the birds chirping from nowhere. “The masterpiece of Mother Nature” is perfect to describe this spectacle.

Meanwhile, Phou Si Mount attracts visitors with exquisite environs and an excellent view of the whole Luang Prabang. On top of the mountain, there is a 20-meter golden building – the Chom Si Tower. On the way, you can stop at the Buddha statue complex of Wat Tham Chomsi to sightsee, as well as worshipping.

The Plain of Jars

This is probably one of the most remarkable places in any Laos itinerary. This landmark is located in Xieng Khouang province. It’s unbelievable that there are approximately 2000 giant stone jars found here. The biggest one is three meters high and weighs fourteen tons. So far, the existence of the jars is still a mystery for scientists all around the world. Local people associate this site the Plain of Jars with the legend about the giants that once ruled the land. Others believe that the jars belong to Khung Cheung – an ancient king who used the stone jars to contain rice wine. Even the material of the jars is still a matter of opinion. This notable sight is truly a wonder of Laos as it looks like a scene in The Hobbit.

Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng is just a small town, but this is where people would love to stop by and spend a few days before continuing the journey. The town is encircled by imposing mountains and the poetic Nam Song River. The tranquility of a typical Lao old town mingled in the picturesque natural landscape is what people fall for in Vang Vieng. Kayaking on the Nam Song River is absolutely a must if you decide to stay here. Make sure that you will take some good photos here – don’t waste that invaluable background.

Vientiane

Vientiane appears in most Laos itinerary not only because it’s the capital city, but this is where you can find plenty of the very best attractions.

First and foremost, it’s advisable to visit Patuxai – the Gate of Triumph. This monument was built to commemorate the sacrifices of courageous soldiers in the resistance against the French army. People often liken Patuxai to The Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile in Paris. Both the architecture and interior design are excellent. Also, the upper floor of this structure offers a superb view of the city.

Pha That Luang – our next destination – will capture your attention right from the first sight. This stupa has become a symbol of the country, and it is printed on the national emblem and banknotes. Since 1566, when this golden tower was built, it has always been significant for Buddhism. Invaluable Buddhist relics and legends are all well maintained here.

Perhaps there is no need to tell you that the Buddha Park is worth a go. The place will be a big “wow!” for any travelers. You can contemplate the grandeur of more than 200 Buddha statues, as well as ones with different shapes – gods, humans, animals, and characters in Hinduism. The highlight of this attraction is the giant lying Buddha statue, which is 40 meters long.

So that are the best places for an ideal Laos itinerary from North to South. Actually, there are many other fantastic sites you should visit, such as alluring Tham Kong Lo cave, Wat Phu Champasak, or Tad Fane Waterfall. But the destinations above are enough for you to have relatively adequate experiences in this remarkable land. Don’t know where to find a reliable motorbike tour for your stunning motorcycle trip to Laos? We wholeheartedly recommend BM Travel Motorbike Tour to all my friends and whoever wishes to travel by motorcycle through Southeast Asia.
